5 Holiday E-Commerce Marketing Campaigns

HOLIDAY MARKETING CAMPAIGNS ARE GREAT FOR YOUR MARKETING EFFORTS

They’re fun, unique, and can really increase sales and engagement by capitalizing on huge events. The key to a successful seasonal e-commerce marketing campaign lies in its creativity — it’s got to stand out.
To help you nail your seasonal marketing in 2019, we’ve identified five creative campaigns to do yourself.

#1 Mother’s Day (The First & the Best as we love our Moms)

When is Mother's Day celebrated? In honor of the mothers, it is celebrated every year in the USA and in some other countries on 2nd Sunday of May.

Anna Jarvis, the founder of Mother's Day suggested the idea of celebrating Mother's Day in honor of mothers and motherhood in 1907. She succeeded in making this nationally recognized in 1914.

On this day people used to honor their mothers who have a great contribution in their lives and for whom they exist in this world. Everyone has their own way to celebrate Mother's day. Some people give cards, gifts or flowers to their mothers, some prefer to dine out and some prefer to spend the whole day with their mothers. Mother's Day is the busiest day of the year for restaurants in the USA and according to Hallmark, each Mother's Day around 162 million greeting cards are sent, making it the third largest card-sending holiday in the world. Whatever the way, the sole aim of this day is to thanks the mothers for everything they have done and made them feel very special.

Mother’s Day is a day dedicated to mothers. But it’s also the perfect time to have a little emotional attachment with your customers as well. Emotion is an effective marketing approach that can raise brand awareness with your audience, and Mother’s Day is the best time for it. To really grab your customers’ attention, send an email announcing a discount offer to mother’s and the kids wishing to gift their mothers as well. Whatever it is, it has to grab your audience and make them open your email —be creative! Once they’ve opened your email, you’ve got their attention. Own up and offer them a discount code as a celebration of the day to appreciate moms. Not only can this give your sales a little boost, but it might even get you some social mentions online.

#2 Ramadan Eid-Ul-Fitr (Ramadan Mubarak)

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Islam uses a lunar calendar—that is, each month begins with the sighting of the new moon. Because the lunar calendar is about 11 days shorter than the solar calendar used elsewhere, Islamic holidays "move" each year. When is Ramadan? In 2019, the first day of Ramadan is May 5 and ends in the evening of June 4.

For more than a billion Muslims around the world—including some 8 million in North America—Ramadan is a "month of blessing" marked by prayer, fasting, and charity. Ramadan focuses on self-sacrifice and devotion to Allah (God).

Ramadan ends with the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr. Literally the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the two most important Islamic celebrations (the other occurs after the Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca). At Eid-ul-Fitr people dress in their finest clothes, adorn their homes with lights and decorations, give treats to children, and enjoy visits with friends and family.

A sense of generosity and gratitude colors these festivities. Although charity and good deeds are always important in Islam, they have special significance at the end of Ramadan. As the month draws to a close, Muslims are obligated to share their blessings by feeding the poor and making contributions to mosques.

You have to admit that Eid-ul-fitr is great for marketers as it is celebrated at the end of one-month fasting. With people all around the world trying to find the perfect present for their loved ones and making contributions to needy people, it’s the perfect opportunity for you to help them decide by offering your products to them.

But to really make your Eid-ul-fitr campaign successful, it needs to be targeted to consumers who are likely to convert — people in the religion. Use customer data gleaned from social media to send curated gift ideas to customers who are looking for something special.

#3 Father’s Day (Love you Dad)

Father’s Day is celebrated worldwide to recognize the contribution that fathers and father figures make to the lives of their children. This day celebrates fatherhood and male parenting. Although it is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide, many countries observe this day on the third Sunday in June.

The date when Father’s Day is celebrated varies from country to country. It is celebrated in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States on the third Sunday of June. It is also observed in countries such as Argentina, Canada, France, Greece, India, Ireland, Mexico, Pakistan, Singapore, South Africa, and Venezuela. In Australia and New Zealand, Father’s Day is on the first Sunday in September. In Thailand, it is celebrated on December 5, which is the birthday of the country’s king. Brazilian dads are honored on the second Sunday of August.

On Father’s Day, many people make a special effort for their fathers or father figures. Some people visit their fathers, while others give gifts, some best Father’s Day gifts are clothing or sporting equipment, or luxury food items. Father's Day is a relatively modern holiday, so different families have different traditions. These can range from a simple phone call or greetings card to large parties honoring all father figures in an extended family. Father figures can include fathers, step-fathers, fathers-in-law, grandfathers, great-grandfathers and even other male relatives.

And a strong seasonal marketing campaign can get you a slice of that pie. The sale event is partly so effective because everyone else is doing it. The hype around the event and the massive discounts available, not to mention its time-sensitive nature, make it perfect for driving sales. As such, your marketing campaigns need to capitalize on that. Build up to Father’s day with a sustained email and social campaign, reminding customers that “when it’s gone, it’s gone”. (What is FOMO – The fear of missing out) is a powerful motivator, and one that can net you significant sales when leveraged correctly. And while brick-and-mortar stores experience huge footfall on Father’s Day, e-commerce stores also see heavy traffic too. Consequently, it pays to invest in Google Ads targeting keywords for your business.

Users of Clever Google Ads can benefit from highly effective seasonal campaigns that target shoppers when they’re searching for products online. The app works with several e-commerce businesses, and can really ramp up your sales. And it’s not just Father’s Day that it can be used for, as a range of other seasonal events including Christmas, Halloween, Easter, and more can also be targeted to great effect.

#4 Friendship Day

Friendship day was originally founded by Hallmark in 1919. It was intended to be a day for people to celebrate their friendship by sending each other cards, but by 1940 the market had dried up, and eventually, it died out completely. However, in 1998 Winnie the Pooh was named the world’s Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nations (believe it or not!), and in April 2011 the United Nations officially recognized 30th July as International Friendship Day; although most countries celebrate on the first Sunday of August!

Friendship Day is a revered occasion for friends all over the world. It is a day when people express love and heartfelt feelings for their best friends and buddies and promise to stand by them at all times in all circumstances.

It’s the most wonderful day celebrated world over, especially for marketers as each consumer is expected to buy something for his/her friend and simultaneously his/her friend would also buy some gifts in return.

It boosts sales if you have crafted a perfect e-commerce campaign well in time and shot on social media portals as well. e.g. “Buy 1 get 2 Free for more friends”. This will create a surge in your audience, compelling them to buy.

#5 Merry Christmas (Means Santa – Means Gifts Hurray!)

Why is Christmas on December 25? The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on December 25th was in 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine (he was the first Christian Roman Emperor). A very early Christian tradition said that the day when Mary was told that she would have a very special baby, Jesus (called the Annunciation) was on March 25th – and it's still celebrated today on the 25th March. Nine months after the 25th March is the 25th of December! March 25th was also the day some early Christians thought the world had been made, and also the day that Jesus died on when he was an adult. Of course, no mention of seasonal e-commerce marketing campaigns would be complete without mentioning Christmas. It’s the most wonderful time of the year, especially for marketers. With consumers expected to spend more on gifts during the festive season as New Year (another important day for a campaign) is also coming up, it’s the perfect time to boost sales with a seasonal campaign. Christmas is easily one of the most popular seasonal e-commerce marketing events out there, both for big brands and small.

Even beginner starter stores like the ones available on Exchange have a Christmas marketing campaign. It drives sales at a time of year when people spend the most, and it’s an absolute must-have for your store too. To really get the most out of your festive marketing campaign, include a countdown to Christmas Day in your social and email marketing, e.g. “only 90 more shopping days until Christmas!”. This will create a sense of urgency in your audience, compelling them to buy immediately. You can take this further by offering a short-term loyalty program starting in fall and ending at the start of December. Points earned during this period can be spent during December, encouraging them to keep shopping with you well into the festive period.
